Welcome to the Heart & Stroke Foundation's Big Bike Auction Website!
The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a volunteer based, non-profit organization dedicated to fighting cardiovascular disease by raising funds to support related, peer-reviewed research and to help people reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke by providing information about the risk factors and promoting healthy lifestyles. Health PromotionThe Health Promotion Department of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & Nunavut provides information about heart disease, stroke, healthy lifestyles, research and statistics. One way in which we inform the public is through our Resource Centre, which contains a wide variety of printed literature and a video lending library. Our Bursary Program supports health professionals' attendance at scientific sessions so they can learn about the latest research and practices and bring this knowledge back to their co-workers, to improve health care delivery. Research • New drugs to protect the brain from permanent damage during stroke • Gene therapy to prevent heart and blood vessel disease • New devices for grafts and heart valves • New treatments in heart rhythm disorders preventing stroke • Growing heart cells so damaged hearts can be healed • Understanding the root causes of high blood pressure, so that it can be stopped before it becomes permanent • Better means of diagnosing and treating heart disease in women • Correction of congenital heart defects - before birth! Fundraising Because the Foundation relies heavily on public donation to carry out its mission, a variety of fundraisers are run throughout Alberta each year: - February Is Heart Month Campaign
- June Is Stroke Month Campaign
- Memorial and In-Honour Donations
- Business Campaigns
